Is it a painting or a drawing? Paintings can sometimes be dated by looking at the back and seeing how the canvas is attached to the frame and how the frame is constructed.

The 3rd pic. Look close at the reeds on the right point. They are much darker. May be a signature? Looks like Borst to me but my eyes may be tricking me.

I when over it with a light I don?t see any signature

My eyes are old,I can see a suggestion of that but not with certainty.Good eyes on you.

I think it could be because if it wasn?t would it all be reflected in water like the one piece

Beautiful landscape. Thatched roof and a tower. Looks English / Irish/ Scottish to me. From the pics it looks like its under glass? I would think that the glass would smear the painting if it were chalk. I'm thinking more along the lines of a dry pastel. it would adhere better to ehat ever the base is...(wood).... Hard to tell when it was done, because you can find landscapes like this, even today, in the Scottish countryside.
