Howdy Folks. It was a nice afternoon for hunting an old soybean field. The same field I scored the War Nickel and broken skeleton key in a few days back. I headed in another direction and was not getting much. Nice claw hammer head. I dug plenty of pull tabs and some shredded beer cans and removed some iron "T" posts from the field. I dug the cool old buckle with the 1870 stamped on it. I really wanted a coin badly so I continued on after sundown with no headlight. Pretty dark but, I finally stumbled across a surface find 1948 Wheat penny. This thing looks OLD! It's had a hard life and is pretty abused but, I scored my coin. I found this big chunk of lead that looks like it was formed into "something" ? Pretty weird looking. Any thoughts on what the heck it is? So not too many great finds tonight but, I got some old stuff and my Butt Ugly Wheat penny. Oh, and I got a knock on my door tonight and a neighbor was standing there with my lost shovel in hand! WOO HOO! Life is GOOD! Thanks for stopping by. Kurios1

That is one worn out wheatie. COINgrats on the save tho. No idea about the lead that is a strange one. I like the triangle buckle thingy.
YAY you got your shovel back!! No vet tracker needed! Thats probably the find of the day right there :hello2: Gotta love good neighbors.

Indeed the shovel return is the find of the day. May not have posted this stuff at all if not for the knock on the door and my shovel returning home. Now I have three field shovels. I should be set for awhile.:icon_thumright:

K1, your find of the day was definitely your shovel returned! The lead "Neptune's Trident" is super weird, and cool! I can't fathom why anyone would fashion a piece of lead into a one-to-three conduit of lead? Wheats will come and go, but getting your lost shovel is a score. Be happy! Sub 8-)

Glad your shovel came home congrats and good luck

You basically answered the question, I will say it's a three way wire termination connector. Kind of hard to determine from the photos for size and if the ends were open at one time. Copper leads might of been pulled out, or it was never used to begin with. If cut open there very well be the look of an oily paper wrap, and VERY OFTEN it is Cambrian paper ( if I got the spelling correct) that often PCB impregnated oil for a water sealent. Nasty crap, ok.
Lead bucket scrap material, wash before eating the lunch.

BTW great to hear that your shovel came home.
