here's a few for you savvy folks

I'm always amazed at with how well some of you guys can id things, so here are a few of mine that I'm not sure about....
pic 1 and 2...Liberty style plate must have came off of something... I was thinking some kind of equipment or stove type maybe...
pic 3 and 4....the Selz award medal....any idea on what these were handed out for other than the obvious "award for highest average" also says "Selz liberty bell medal 1776 awarded for proficiency in scholarship and deportment"
pic 5 and 6 the number 32 ...was wondering if it could be military related maybe?
pic 7 the strange keys on the large pins.....no clue

thanks in advance...all these finds were found in old farm yards from the late 1800's

Read me the patent dates or number in pic 7 large pins and I should be able to find it.

the pin has number 1991827 on it....which I thought I looked up before and it was just for the pin....I'm curious as to what the key things are at the end, which do not have a patent number but do have dates...

Selz Chicago Liberty Bell Award for Scholarship & Deportment Patent 1904 Vintage. The front of the upper piece reads "AWARD FOR HIGHEST AVERAGE". The front of the bell dangler reads "SELZ LIBERTY BELL MEDAL 1776 AWARDED FOR PROFICIENCY IN DEPORTMENT AND SCHOLARSHIP BY SELZ, CHICAGO." The back of the bell dangler reads "DONATED BY SELZ, CHICAGO." The back of the upper piece reads "PAT 1904" and "D & D PROV. R.I

I believe the SELZ on your 'Bell Award' refers to Morris Selz, a prominent businessman in Chicago at the beginning of the last century.http://encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/2842.html

We still cant find the patents. I thought SBB would be all over this by the time I got back from work. Its being sold as pool/gym locker basket key but I still dont understand it. :icon_scratch: I notice there are different cut outs. Can someone explain to me how it works?

Awesome!...nice find on the patent info....interesting stuff. After looking at the liberty shield thing I noticed the 3 holes look like they probably had square nails through them, so likely attached to something wooden?

Did you notice that the patent there is 1935?

I know that is what I do with my dad's military ones - especially knitting and crocheting, but, the armed services used them back in the 20's, 30's, 40,s and 50's.

Big Cy ~

Thanks for the confidence in me, but I just now saw this thread and really don't have much to add that hasn't already been covered. You nailed the patent part for the key and pin things. But since I was in the neighborhood, I thought I'd add the text below that (sorta) explains how the key works. I realize this same information can be read by accessing your link, but hey, I gotta contribute something. Besides, I thought the inventor's explaination of how the key works was hilarious and worth another look at. But I guess you really don't need to be a rocket scientist to know how a key functions ... or do you? After reading the following, you might think you do need to be one. Can you imagine trying to explain this out loud to someone? You would be better off by saying something like, ... "You just stick the dang key thing in the little slot and it opens. Don't ask me how it works - it just does!" :tongue3:
