To The Mighty AP.....

One more thing real quick......

AP, just a word to let you know how much I truly appreciate the digger you sent to me here in Kentucky.

My wife and I recently relocated to this state and we have found it to be the practice that people here (and in general) will not give unconditionally and without expectation of profit, or something in it for them.

You are most certainly and without doubt the exception to this rule, this digger means a great deal to me. Not only as an effective and functional ground pounding tool, but it symbolizes the reality that good people with immeasurable character and generosity can still be found in a world where financial gain regulates the motivation of their intent.

I wish you the best of luck and we hope all your wishes and desires come to pass in the months and years ahead.

Thank you again for this symbol of benevolence; as this unselfish act of kindness, and regard for a fellow hobbists.

For many years to come, when friends see me using your digger, they will undoubetedly ask questions as to where I bought it. You can rest assured that I will tell them I bought it nowhere, and I will tell them all the details regarding how I came about this wonderful tool of the trade - and what it really represents.

Thank you for the gift,

Tim

A nice thank you box will be enroute....hope you like it!

Looks like a high quality tool, Maybe you should start to sell, I know I would buy one.

Re: Mailbox Finds - WOW

The Mighty Man is simply the best!!!
Cool digger, hope it brings you luck also.

Smiles!

Re: Mailbox Finds - WOW

The thing that makes this tool so unique is that the end cap screws on and off...I dressed it up with a rubber "O" ring and made it totally waterproof. The hollow handle now houses an emergency cigarette and a match :D :D!

I can see myself using the Mighty AP more than I use the Lesche.

I've also worked it a bit with some fine grit wet sandpaper, it shines like a proof set coin! I can't wait to get it dirty ;D ;D ;D.

AP, just a word to let you know how much I truly appreciate the digger you sent to me here in Kentucky.

My wife and I recently relocated to this state and we have found it to be the practice that people here (and in general) will not give unconditionally and without expectation of profit, or something in it for them.

I cannot begin to agree more with you Night Stalker. After my 13 years military it seems to be way more powerful true. I can tell you why. So many peps have cheated, swindled and stole from the peps of SE Kentucky for a great many years. Lots of peps from the generations before us had little education and for some were easy pickins. Of course combine that with little hope of a decent job (Atleast the SE part I am from) except maybe if you do coal mining. And I can tell you from my many uncle's experience that all coal mines and many fellow miners are super crooks too.

You see some of my uncles are miners, others security guards for coal companies. The one thing I have learned is that the mines would sell you out for a candy bar. They constantly steal their own stuff to try to collect insurance, until now the insurance companies have really cranked down on em. Guards are often fired when there is no doubt its an inside job. Who else can go deep in a mine, know where the equipment is on a moments notice, use it, and know what important parts to steal to sell to another mine. They don't want real security measures or serial numbers recorded, because they would all buy from other miners or steal it themselves for attempted insurance.

And now, low and behold they are really pissed. HOW DARE THE REALLY...four wheeler peps sneak in and steal large quantity of copper wire that is basically spread out and unguardable. I can understand their anger. Someone else steal and not them!!!!

Now that is some of the best jobs here. Everything else would be spread out between Welfare, Gov't checks or other things.

You could say report them .... LoL yeah right. I can count 3 peps that have gotten away with murders in the last 20 years.

You see I do not condone what SE Kentucky has became. And I do not in anyway say that all peps here are that way. But I do have to say that the numbers of crooks vs. good folks seems to be much higher than many other places I have lived while in the military and College.

I cannot wait to move away from here again. Constant worry about peps stealing more stuff out of our yard, or breaking into the house while we are gone, or the storage building. AND the BEST part is I am trying to ask those peps to allow me to poke around thier land to metal detect. I am finding (unless its peps that know me and my family) it almost impossible to get permission. There was lots of drugs before I left to go to the military long ago, and still not many jobs. But something big changed while I was gone. Not sure exactly what it was, but peps are no where near as friendly as they used to be. And I really can't blame them.

Was it the GIVE ME everything generation? Who knows. I just know that I would love to see a change. But I see no hope of it for a long time.

Take a good look at the old time pics of Kentucky folk. See that most of the pics you see are peps with dirty hand made clothes and hardly a smile. That was long long ago before my time, but as I hear it those great folks would have given you those dirty hand made clothes. Try to ask know LoL.

Anyways, sorry if it seemed I hijacked your post. BUT its true. I sure hope your town is better than where I currently am. I hope there are more opportunities for the peps there, if not I hope they bring them more opportunities. Then you can see a change.

Currently they think the answer to the drug problem and stealing is long jail sentences for the workers to pay more taxes on. I wish they could just see that if they relaxed some of thier state laws and gave bigger businesses that would pay more to employees incentive to be here the drug problem would clear up some. And peps could afford to work (with benefits no less) and could get off the checks. Currently that minimum wage with no benefits will get them no where. So most are on the checks, for the medical benefits if nothing else.

However, if you cross the border into Tennessee where you came from you see a change. You see many factories and big businesses all around. I generally find the peps there way more receptive to allowing MDing.

Anyways. If you have not figured it out yet Night Stalker, which I think you have, then that's the ticket. Those nice folk that SE Kentucky was known for years to have, are just tired of others and our own young taking advantage and taking anything else they can get thier hands on.

AND yes I think they should throw thiefs in jail for long long long times, or do the middle eastern thing and cut off the hand. But sadly I there are lots of thiefs here just paying for food and rent, much less the usual large drug crowd.

Anyways LoL. If this part of the post annoys you then just let me know and I will delete the whole thing. I just wanted you to know what you are up against. And I wanted to emphasize what you were saying about how peps here in SE Kentucky are acting at the moment.

I want to see a change here. As a young man so many peps were great here. But I would just as soon be like the majority of the younger or otherwise peps that wanted a future and leave here as fast as I get the opportunity to do so.

Thank you.

Once again AP great job.

Now you guys see why I empasize kindness when I see it posted on here. It's perhaps the only place I see it atm.

No offense taken Post! :D

I agree with your comments 100% - like you mentioned, once I cross back over into VA or TN, no problems with gaining access to hunting areas and getting permission.

I'm hoping we'll transfer from KY this coming year (early spring hopefully). It's been an experience living here, when we first moved into our house, our neighbor came by and reminded us to keep everything we have of value out of sight or under lock and key! :D

I work under the Department of Labor (finding jobs for ppl) and 98% of the job listings around here are for coal truck drivers or coal miners, the other 2% of available jobs are fast food or clerks in convenience stores. It's no wonder that most ppl around here are either subsisting through government programs (food stamps/welfare/hud/SSI/SSD) or on the waiting list. This is very beautiful country, but beauty does not pay the bills.

The digger AP sent to me really surprised me....I'm just not used to someone (especially a total stranger) doing something for me without expecting something in return or with strings attached somewhere along the lines.

Like you, I retired from the military and have been all over the U.S. and overseas and Southeast Kentucky was like stepping back in time and a real culture shock. Clans, drugs, theft, greed, suspicious attitudes, you name it and it's here.

Hopefully, we'll get our transfers this coming spring (maybe out west... ;D)! If you're ever around Pikeville, gimme a holler, I'll buy ya lunch! :D

Postalrevnant's post, WOW! That is just sad, sad, sad! :(

Amen. And thank you Night Stalker. I hope to make my way up your way in the spring if we are not gone by then. Perhaps we will both be in Tennessee by then and can hook up and hunt some there.
