I have been invited to a charter fishing trip from near Toledo out on Erie.
I haven?t been on a boat there before, only island hopping in Cancun.
What should I expect? Seasick? High waves? Will I be able to see land?

How cool for you! It’s not like the ocean. It’s not that the waves get big, it’s that they are so close together. Listen to the weather reports. TV Channel 11 and/or channel 13. If they call for 1-2 foot waves that’s a good little chop for fishing. 2-3 footers starts getting hairy, but still fishable depending on the size of the boat. If you are going on a bigger charter boat it’ll be okay, probably, even with 3 footers. If you are prone to seasickness or don’t know for sure, take a Dramamine the night before and then again in the morning. Don’t forget sunglasses and sunscreen. It?s supposed to start warming up, so I don’t think you will need cold weather gear, but you might want rain suit, just in case.
The midges were hatching last time we were up. The mayfly hatch may be happening. They are annoying but don’t bite. You may want to take a gaiter mask for wind protection and the bugs.

Yes, you will be able to see land, Ohio, Michigan, and depending where they take you, Canada.
Good luck and I hope to see some fish pics on Bart’s thread!

P. S. You may even see me. You know what I look like. Don’t be shy. Say, “Hello.” :hello:

It’s not a big boat. I’m told there will be six fishers, the captain and a stewardess?
Do they go out when it’s bad?

If you have 6 on the boat, then it is bigger than what I go out on. You'll be able to go out on 3-4 footers. I used to when we had the Triton 2486. They won't go out if it is expected to be 4' or higher waves. They will go out in the rain, as long as it's not storms. Most of the captains are level headed. They won't risk your life. I am excited for you. Walleye fishing is fun! Don't expect to get the big ones. Charters go for numbers not weight. Although, it could happen. I am assuming you are going for walleye. People like the perch fishing up there, also. Not my thing.

Jeffy have fun!
Don’t forget to bring your chewables!

Take bananas, they help calm the tummy.

Ok I’m not sure it’s a stewardess, but hoping.
It will be for walleye, I guess sheepshead too.
After fishing they cook the fish for us

Sheephead?!?! What the heck kinda charter take you out for those?!?! That?s what you want to avoid! Trash fish! They are dead weight in the water. They are just covering their butts!

Dont wanna get seasick ?

Stay at the stern as much as possible. (stern = rear / back)

IF you are walking around boat and begin to feel sick... move there and stay there.

Yes and away from the gas fumes.

Especially when you are running to the spot, stay towards the back.

Yes, it happens. If you?re catching those a lot or white bass, the Cap?n should change his troll speed or even the spot. They?ll take care of you. They won?t get much repeat charters if they catch trash.
