hi all
i just got my new TESORO SAND SHARK a few days ago and started hunting the beaches where i live. (long island). after doing a lot of research i decided on this one because i will be doing only beach hunting with it(mostly wet sand and in the water). i already ordered a steel sand scoop from reilly'swhich is easier than a smll shovel.we went down to the beach for the last 2 days for about 1 1/2 hours at a shot and my first beach find was a 1972 quarter, a black rock(has a very srong signal but dont know what it is) and a few bottle caps and pull tabs.the second day i found a gravity knife but the blade is welded into the handle from rust and a big fishing weight and the usual pull tabs and bottle caps i really like this detector even though i have to dig every beep( its a pulse induction md)but thats allright with me. i want those gold rings!!!!.im just joined this forum and figured i would say hi. i cant wait until memmorial day weekend. the beaches here will be packed. this is a great family hobbie also because my wife and kids like doing it with me. we all get some exercise and we all love the beach since we were born and raised here. when you are a kid growing up on the island the beach is a big part of your life.

WELCOME ABOARD . WHEN THE WATER WARMS,YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GO DEEPER AWAY FROM SHORE AND YOU WILL FIND MORE GOOD FINDS LIKE (RINGS YOU DESCRIBED) AND LESS IRON. GOOD LUCK

SH,

welcome to the board.

Hope you and that machine get along
fine this summer at the beach.

have a good un.............

Hi, I have had a SandShark almost a year now. Its a great machine, yes you dig alot of trash but thats just part of detecting. Once the water warms up you can go out a little deeper and check out whats in the surf. Also check out Tesoro's forum. at their website.

THANKS FOR THE WELCOME !

i hope i get my sand scoop tomorrow so i can hit the beach.a small shovel just doesnt cut it. i also have to pick up some water proof boots or waders. the water here is still very cold.

Sand Shark is a fine machine for the deep stuff. You'll increase your finds by making sure you overlap sweeps a little so as to not miss any thing & keep the coil level too. You might need two scoops, one for wet sand and a screen type for dry.

Good Luck,

Sandman

thanks for the the tips. i have only used the sand shark 3 times so far at the beach due to alot of rain here the last week. if i could i would be out there every day. i probably will be as soon as memmorial day weekend starts. i tested out the short scoop i got recently and it works great in the dry sand. i should have tested it in the wet sand but didnt. you are probably right about having 2 scoops. i am going to check into getting one of those long heavy duty scoops soon. i developed a bad habit already of zig zaging with the detector. from now on i will remember to overlap my swings and not do those z pattern swings.

Welcome to, what is probably one of the only hobbies that can make you EXTREMELY popular with the wife/girlfriend/etc. You bring home some decent jewelry, and I guarantee that she will probably not hassle you as much about leaving your dirty socks on the floor. ;D Not only will you get some great exercise, but you will have the opportunity to touch a remnant of our past. Tesoro makes a great line of machines, and I am sure that once you really get the hang of it, you will start producing some great finds..

you know its funny you should mention that. my kids recently got me the sand shark and we went to the beach a few times and my wife actually likes this hobby. now any chance we get we all go and have a blast. i have 2 more things on the way to me. a pair of rubber boots( because the water here is still very cold and a long sand scoop.) then we will get serious. especially since memorial day weekend isnt too far off.

I have to say that this is one of few hobbies out there that will bring a family together. I have a 12 year old who I couldn't have busted away from the XBox and TV with a stick of dynamite and jackhammer. He went with me for the first time this past weekend and had a blast. He is turning 13 on June 3rd, and we have planned a trip to Daytona Beach. What he doesn't know is that I ordered him a Whites Beachhunter ID for him today for his birthday present. I just hope he has some luck while over there to really get him hooked..

Now if I could just get the wife hot on this, so we can get her a machine that I can use when she can't go... ::)

Ocaliman, Your son should enjoy that new detector, My boys are 13 and 15 and the 15 year old just got his HeadHunter PI today. They also have Tesoro's for the dry sand and Im switching to a MineLab so the younger one will get my SandShark. They still do a little playstation but like hitting the beach.
