Back in the late 70's I was up in a gold bearing area of far northern Ontario.
I knew some old timers who worked in the mines when they were operating but were closed when I was there.
(a lot of new stuff was done in the 90's on, even working the old milling piles)
But, one old timer gave me two samples he had of 'High Grade' ore.

I have heard that sometimes a good looking sample can be worth more than it's actual gold content value.
Do some of you Hard Rock miners market some of your finds that way?
and any idea what my two specimens might fetch?

The hook shaped piece definitely has specie value as to how much.... depends on a bunch of stuff that I am no expert at but it would drag customers in a jewelry store window display....

I save / collect most of my spec type pieces , but I have sold some too .
It's pretty much whatever you can get for it . Looks matter most .
I've sold from a high of $400.00 down to $20.00 .
Market (spot) price is immaterial because you will get more than the
actual gold content is worth regardless of what market price is at the
time . If you sell a piece for $40.00 that has $2.00 to $10.00 worth of
gold in it ( given market price ) that's a good trade on a dime for dime
basis .
Finding buyers for spec type pieces can be a bit more difficult than finding
buyers for the crush . At least in my region it is ....... or has been ......
I have not sold any of my stuff in a couple of years but I doubt anything
has changed .

Forgot to say what I thought those might fetch ............ Just going by your pics , the one on the left
of your first pic does have some character value ....... if you can find somebody that values that character .
I would put it at $15.00 to $20.00 If you can get somebody look'n and think'n ...... talk it up .

Whelp I usually just priced mine out at spot for the total weight, smaller specimens I priced out 3x spot, sold every one that I ever listed too.

That seems to be about how the dealers at the world famous Tucson Gem and Mineral Show price their gold specimens.
