You may remember a posting of mine regarding a 10K class ring I find downtown Eugene Oregon a few weeks ago. The ring's owner graduated from EAS (Equity American School) in Guatemala in 1965. The ring was made by BALFOUR. The first contact I had with BALFOUR was over the phone, and wasn't very good ~ the lady wasn't interested in my story and she wasn't any help at all. So I decided to write to BALFOUR ~ now today I get a reply ~ they can't help me, they can't find any info regarding the ring, the school, nor the owner of the ring. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to keep this one for myself! I TRIED!!

Hate to say it bud but you tried harder than I would. I would try if it were local or i knew the person other than that that ring would be mine. Just think how mad the girlfriend would be if you gave back the ring after she threw her little spatt and threw it. just my 2 cents. ebay it would go.

Difficult for a ring from another country. Odd that Balfour made it though... Are you sure it was Guatemala? Or did Balfour tell you that? How exactly are you certain of the school name again? In 15 years of detecting and many rings returned, the only one I still have I couldn't even find the name of the school from its initials--it is long gone now-- and that was a 1941 class ring. I've always been able to find the owner if I knew the school name. Try to locate someone else who graduated from that school around then and ask them questions about how big the class size was. There are TONS of classmate sites online. You'll find someone to ask those questions to. Making a phone call to a company is usually not enough to return a ring. The company will never care. They have better things to do, like sell stuff. If the class size was small, someone else you find to talk to may know remember someone who knew someone...etc. I assume it has initials inside the band? You should have already asked the property owners, and gotten the phone number of the previous property owners of the place where you found the ring. Anyone who graduated in Guatemala would likely be bilingual or might look Guatemalan. That might make them stick out a little more in the former property owners' recollection as one of their guests/relatives/etc. Go to classringfinder.com and look there. Have you done that? It might be posted there as lost. How deep was it? Was it a recent loss? It would be wise to post it on that website under "found". If someone contacts you with the correct initials from the inside of the band, then you have a winner. There's more to do! Get on it!

Respectfully Yours,

Buckleboy

Oh well, you tried, Fossis..................

Run an ad in a local spanish newspaper...or you might check with the local social welfare office, catholic church, or the like.

Good find Oddcoins

I would just keep it ... it will look good in your collection

To BuckleBoy,

Yes, I'm sure of the school ~ EAS Guatemala (Equity American School) ~ it's a private school K to 12 in Guatemala ~ you can see in the picture I posted "EAS GUATEMALA". I've tried contacting the school ~ no reply yet.

I did talk to the owners of the land of where I found the ring ~ I actually found two class rings in the same yard. The other ring is a ladies 1953 class ring ~ to make a long story short, I know who the ring's owner is, I'm going to meet her in person in April 2007 to return it. She lost it BEFORE 1960.

The neighbor next door to this property has been living in her house since 1955 ~ she knew who owned the 1953 ring, but the 1965 Guatemala. I found the 1965 Ring right next to the side walk ~ it could have easily been dropped by a passer-by while walking down the side walk. This neighborhood is very close to the University of Oregon.

And yes, I already registered it at classringfinder.com ~ no leads yet.

THANKS!
Neil
