So I had just finished picking up one box of half dollars at one bank and was on my way to another in West Springfield, Ma. As I was crossing the South End Bridge from Springfield into Agawam, I looked to my right and saw the most awesome sight. A tornado was forming right over me! I hit the gas and drove right through the debris field. My car was pushed back and forth by the wind across 3 lanes of traffic. The roof of a shop 100 yards away got sucked up into the sky and just disintegrated. As soon as I was clear of the tornado I hit 115mph down Rt. 57 and was being passed by other cars. Never in my life have I seen such a thing. I made it to the bank safely, informed them what happened. The teller was very worries because her house was right where I had just been. I picked up my box of halves and headed home. It took 6 hours to make it home in what should have been a 15 minute drive.
And of course, the box was a total skunk! At least I got 3 from the first box.

Here is a picture of some of the aftermath that I took on my way home..

Cool story you will never forget. Glad you are ok. Bet those heavy boxes of halves helped to weight down your car while you were on the outer vortex of the tornado. I am going to use this one with my wife next time she starts griping about my halves fetish.

oxbowbarefoot glad you made it safe and sound with your silver.

Was eventful for sure yesterday. I was driving on I-291 home from work and was doing over 110 mph briefly. Not suprising it has been on the national news as the damage was extensive. Several banks I frequent were just a stones throw from the path of destruction and are on roads that have been closed. I cross Memorial Bridge almost every day which is the bridge over the Connecticut River in the video of the tornado that most of the nationwide news channels were showing. Hunting will be slow this week until they get some more streets opened up. They had some pretty good pics up of the tornados on WWLP 22 near Agawam and West Springfield.

Crazy man. I'm from michigan but I had a freind that lived in Longmeadow. When I visited him we went into Springfeild, and Agawam. His sister went to Umass. Nice place, I didn't know you guys get hit by tornadoes up there too. Michigan has them every year.

That is incredible. Glad you are okay. Bless those folks! Can't imagine how that will change so many people's lives.
