I got out for my first hunt since the ground froze solid in January, it’s been a long cold snowy winter here in the north! My first field, next to an old fruit orchard was pretty much still frozen to due the thick ground cover. The orchard was pretty much frozen as well, I’ll head back here again in the next week or so.
The next site I headed to was a very muddy and wet farm field where the archeologists had been digging last summer. This site is scheduled to be developed into residential house later this year. The surface/eyeball finds were plentiful after the had snow melted, but I did manage to make a couple of interesting finds, but no real keepers. I’ll head back here as soon as the ground firms up a bit… it felt like my rubber boots had five pounds of mud stuck to them!

Word of advice, don’t leave your expensive prescription eye-glasses on the Tonneau Cover of your pick up truck, as you might drive away forgetting they’re still there. :BangHead: I drove for over a mile before I realized this was the case yesterday morning on my way to detect. I decided to head back and walk the route I drove three hours earlier, thankfully I found them on the side of the road in a ditch. When I got home our dog Lilly said, “Dad how could you be so silly... do you have a treat for me”? :laughing7:

Thanks very much for looking!
Dave

Lucky finding those glasses. Your persistence paid off walking the route. Nice variety of finds. Congrats!
Btw...cool dog.

Nice finds Dave. Glad you found your expensive prescription glasses. Looks like a large area to hunt for one guy. Let me know if you need some help. Lol. Congrats on the finds.

Thanks Patriot, I still can't believe I found them! :laughing7:
Our dog is a Havanese, sweetest dog we've ever had.

Thanks buddy, I've pretty much covered the hay field, I'm just waiting for the farmer to cut the grass in the fruit orchard.
Best of luck to you in the Niagara Region this year,
Dave

Thank you Professor.
We have heavy rain in the forecast this week, so next weekends hunt should be interesting as well.
Dave

Your dog looks quite displeased.

No she just woke up, so she looks grumpy.... my wife has the exact same look all day long. :laughing7:

Nice location, Dave.

Thanks John, I think the muddy field has the potential for more interesting finds when the ground firms up.
Best of luck to you,
Dave

Thanks for your post Randy, I sure hope so. :icon_scratch:
The muddy farm field is one of the older sites in this area, probably c1830 - 40, so who knows.
Dave

Nice find and beautiful spot there.

And good luck to you in 2019.
Nice start

Pretty cool hunting spot Your best find were your glasses I got contacts about a year ago freakin disaster trying to get em in then thinking I got em out and diddnt then wondering if they were inside out wow what a headache lol

Nice variety of finds. I like that Bell. Glad your glasses are still in one piece.

Hi! Do you mind me asking where you find your old maps? I don't do fields... parks and schools mostly. I am still waiting for the ground to thaw (I live in MB.), can't cut nice plugs with it half frozen. If you do old spots that no one goes to it wouldn't matter but I like to stay in the city.

Thanks for your post my friend, hope you're getting out these days.

Hello Mvgirl! :hello:

My wife was born in Winnipeg... I like to tell her, that I don't hold that against her. :laughing7:
Just kidding of course, I've been to 'The Peg' a number of times on business.

From 1865 to 1875 a series of nine atlases were produced by The Government at the time to educate the public in Ontario on where schools, cemeteries, churches, houses, farms etc were located.
I purchased online the atlas for Ontario County, now the Durham Region here in Ontario six years ago.

Research is the key to making good finds, after you receive permission from the land owner of course. :icon_thumright:

Best of luck to you in MB,
Dave

Looks like an awesome place to hunt. Excellent photos and finds.

Ok thanks! Hardly any canadian detectorists on Tnet so when I find someone that may have some good hunting suggestions I always ask. Ive only detected 3 months (stupid winnipeg winters take up most of the year), and I'm up grading and getting the bounty hunter land ranger pro.

Glad you were able to find your glasses, based on your finds it looks like you will have some great hunting, hope you can get the goods before the ground development begins. GL & HH

So was I believe me! :laughing7:
The muddy field definitely needs my immediate attention, site services (sewer & water) are scheduled to start May 1.

Best of luck to you Upstate,
Dave
