A lady at my church is putting in a new mobile home. The spot she picked was the site of a former home of theirs than had burnt back in 2002. The original home was built in 1861. The weeds, debris, snakes, bees and other factors did not allow me to detect there prior to now. When they started the site prep. for the home, they mowed, removed the debris and graded where the old house had been down several inches. I went to detect. I started off by seeing all kinds of marbles laying around.. blackened.. some morphed by heat.. she said her husband had worked at a place that made marbles and so he got interested in them. In all, I picked up 296 marbles that first night... then started seeing coins laying around..... I started to pull out a few and notice that this is a pile.... there ends up being 311 coins in all in this first pile... all in about a 8 inch radius.. and 6" and shallower... then off to one side, I notice a round impression... out comes a glass ashtray.. debris, ashe, and dirt still covered it... turns out to be another 131 coins in it.... I went back a few other nights and pulled another 71 coins... only old things were a few newer wheats, a '35 Buffalo and a holed 18?? Large Cent....No silver though... all clads
Totals:
Halves: 17
Quarters: 26
Dimes: 28
Nickels: 23
Pennies: 417
1 large cent
310 marbles
I gave it all back to her after pix... her husband had passed and she has some slight issues regarding items and throwing them away... so she has glad to get them
This is my one day record... that first night... 446 coins in less than an hour!
