Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Coins were holed in the old days to string them together. Individual coins are easy to lose, a whole ring of them are much easier to keep track of. Same principle as a key-ring. Both of my seated coins I have dug were holed.

I heard it was the best thing since sliced bread ------ You guys don't have bakery sliced bread back there yet? I know you got corn bread in a heavy iron skillet ---- hmmmm, but no bakery sliced bread, just pockets. :laughing7: Just kidding. My wife says the damn yankees put sugar in the corn bread and that started the civil war.

LOL! With that fried corn bread you gotta 'smother' a cabbage. The water left over in the cabbage pot makes fine 'pot liquor.' Most Southerners will crumble the corn bread in the pot liquor. Ever heard of that one?

Interesting thing you might want to know about Ancient Gold and Silver coins with holes, in England they are deemed as Treasure trove, because they have been holed, it has been taking out of monetary use, so it is classed as a Artifact, and not a coin.

That's very interesting!
When you look deeper into holed coins Jason, they are very interesting indeed, lots of reasons and myths associated with holed coins.

...with the amount we have found in the places we found...and know who was there and for what reasons,I cant envision them wearing them as jewelry...not to say they didnt in some places
I have seen several large cents dug, that had the "E",professionally grade changed to a "U",...now I could see those those worn, but oddly I dont recall any of them as being holed?
