Got out today with one of our own...CCDAMEEK...to a permission of his on an 1800s homesite. I think I got the 30 minute curse though. 5 minutes after starting the hunt, I got my newest piercing, a holed 1886 Canadian 5 Cents piece. I didn't find another coin all day. I did find some items of interest to me and that makes the day. Got to hunt with a stand-up guy too! If ya get the chance to hunt with Chip, I'll vouch for his character and I'm not ashamed to say he takes care of our hobby. He's hunted it several times and you wouldn't know it. He fills holes like he's on the whitehouse lawn and I'm talking in places where all that was required of us was to back fill the holes. Every dig was clean and so was the mop up. Thanks buddy, you help us keep our hobby alive. Much respect! We dug all day and didn't give up till nearly dark. Had a blast and found a few things. A partial suspender clip(love them), a pair of scissors, a small buckle, a spoon that may have been plated at one time that was mostly copper now. A bunch of FRM (Firearm Related Material) as usual and the usual trash. I put pix up and then screwed up my post so this is the 2nd try...jeesh! I posted the front of a 5 cents piece that I found online. I think it's a match.

Sweet!!! Congrats!!!

I think I may be wrong on the coin. After Chip found another pic, I think the obverse is different from the example I found online. Regardless, it's silver, it's 144 years old and I'm happy,,,heheh!

Ahem... 134... but who's counting?
Nice find! Those suckers are tiny! I hate when it happens like that, though... first rattle out of the box and then kaput. But, hey, you got to spend the rest of the day digging with someone else who gets it, so maybe that's the best treasure!
HH and GL!

At the widest part of the Canadian it's 15.50 mm. On a new rosie it's 17.84 mm on my cheap digital caliper.

First off smallfoot, Thank You for the glowing & kind words. You do a great job yourself of keeping our hobby "clean".
It was a great day digging. The only other coin we found today, I found about 30 minutes before dark. It was a 1986 U.S. Dime. So two coins found dated 100 years apart! Pretty wild.

Upon further review, I think you are right about it being a 5 cent piece.

Yes. Made by Hyde in the U.S.A.. Makers mark has a blue background. Tried to date it, but could not find enough info.

probably early to mid 1900s if I had to guess, but that is a wild shot in the dark. hyde tools has been around since 1875. Hyde and other companies still sell versions like that today, in fact got a bunch laying around the shop. so hell could even be from 20 years ago lol

Cleaned it out!! WTG

Nice coin. I like the headstamps too. Good work!

Very cool! Finding a Victorian Canadian silver and also finding a Canadian fish scale are both on my bucket list. That would be a two-fer!

Cool coin and nice relics, congrats! :occasion14:

OK, you and I share tastes in metal detectors, with both having the Whites DFX and Minelab CTX 3030, so I know you're an OK guy. :occasion14: But help me out here on the "Canadian fish scale"? :dontknow: What are you referring to?
