The attached pictures are the finds of me and one buddy over the weekend. We hunted in OH and WV. The conditions weren't great for hunting and the results suffered a bit because of it. The first picture is a total shot of all the decent stuff we found. The broken drill section is exceptionally well made. There are Kirk, Ft Ancient, Early Side notch, Pentagonal, St Albans, Hopewell and Adena pieces in the picture. The 2nd picture is an in-situ of the early archaic side notch. It is a common type in the area and has heavy basal grinding. The 3rd picture is an in-situ of a St Albans I nearly hit with the boat anchor. In classic form I chucked the anchor up onto to shore and then headed down the water line, finding nothing. I then go to retrieve the anchor and find the bifurcate. The 3rd and 4th pictures are of exhausted pentagonal points. Overall not a stellar weekend, but considering the conditions it wasn't too bad. There are 1 or 2 pieces in the lot worth finding.

Thanks,
Joe

Forgot a picture of some cup (nutting) stones. Two of the stones are in-situ and two others I carried 15-20' to make the picture. I don't recall which two were in-situ. Not sure what these where used for. I've heard some good and some comical suggestions.

You had a great weekend.
Thanks for the look.

I think you got more than a few worth keeping. Wish i could have a day like that.....Nice finds :icon_thumright:

Nice water hunt. I have not found the nut stones on the rivers but that is sure what it looks like. I sometimes find the little platform stones that are dipped in but not really cupped out. I am partial to them and drag them home for the garden and walkways.. Hickory nut stones. The flatter ones were for acorns I have heard.
Good bunch of points. Water stuff usually stands a chance of being much finer then ploughed field stuff.

is the center piece on the napkin a pendant or gorget? undrilled? It has the shape! Looks like a very productive outing!

Ohioaxeman - you're exactly right on the center piece. I'd say it's a pendant, my buddy thinks it's a gorget.
