Hollow Brass Tip?

Found on a civil war battle field. At first I thought it might be a scabbard tip but it might be too small for that. It is a hollow brass tip. 2 1/8" long and the opening on the end is 3/8" wide. Any ideas?

the ones like that I found before were caps off of eye liner pencils
