Hopper size?

I am going on the theory that twelve pounds of pay cannot go into a 10 pound trommel build. This in mind, does anyone have a suggestion on how to match hopper size to trommel size. Dry trommel, about 34 inches diameter. I have not decided on a 3 or 5 inch grizzly yet. Trommel plan is about the length 34 inches to match: a tumble, 1/4 screen, tumble, 1/2 screen, final tumble to exit). So I'm thinking around 9 feet. Any help on the hopper size fit would be great.

and how do you plan on feeding this trommel? bob cat, back hoe, excavator what size bucket? is it going to have a conveyor to feed the trommel from the hopper like my avatar?
