OMG, it isn't quartz
Took a long ride to a field on Sunday. Not huge, took about 2 hours to crisscross the whole field.
With nothing to show for the hunt, 15 minutes from the end, guy walks up, asks what I'm doing and "what kind of rocks do you look for?" I tell him "quartz" and point to a flake. He walks away and stops where I will be passing in just about 5 more minutes. Then I notice he's hurrying back. With a nice quartz triangle, part crystalline. "yep, that's what you look for" I tell him. He gets in his car and leaves after looking for all of 10 minutes. Oh well, maybe I should stop being so darn helpful just once?! Lol.....
So yesterday I checked a small field close to home. And 15 minutes from the end, found a hornfels triangle. Hornfels is a metavolcanic like rhyolite and felsite. For once, at least lately, a triangle other then quartz. Not perfect, but better then getting skunked in the fashion I did Sunday
Also photo of site frame with latest point on right.....
