Is there a way to date these.....I can see that one of them is braided or twisted...Does that make a difference?

Hard to date these still in use these days. The twisted one is a separate bit from the other.

Snaffel bit! If I remember correctly they were not braided. ..

Not braided, twisted. Used when driving the horse, or when breaking colts. I've seen twisted snaffle bits, but never used one.
