Sure looks like it, except it's missing the ring on the other end.

What you have is a part of a bit...it's held in place by a bridle...which you don't have.

Similar bits are still manufactured today, but from steel or aluminum...

Went back to recheck the site where i found the bit and found this maybe 2-3 ft. east. And buried the same depth. Maybe I'm thinking too much in the manner I found a CW hotspot. Anyways the back side is a little thicker than 1/8in. "blade" edge is maybe a 1/16th or thinner. It does have a curve like a sabre or sword blade. Getting alot of mixed readings in the area alot of newer junk. I'll describe the site. A small Valley located between a main traveled route into my town from Va. and an artillery rifle pit located on a large knoll overlooking the town. To the north was a sulfer mine and springs. So my location is center of the triangle. Also the main battles fought in my town were calvary units. If some of you wish to know more on these battles it was called the battle of Moorefield. So any thoughts on my sabre idea.

Looks like a part of a Hackamore bridle which does not have a mouth piece - but is attached to a noseband to apply pressure - brakes 8-)Hackamore.webp

There is no spot for the nose band. It is hard to tell from the picture but you can see a square hole in the center where the mouth piece would of fit like a pin.
