When I was a youngster my parents raced harness horses at the fair tracks in Michigan. We were at a different fair each week from June thru August. Needless to say, most of us became bored with going to the midways. We would usually spend our spare time playing cards. We played in the tackrooms of either a barn or shed-row. As I recall, they all had dirt floors.
When you hunt a barn or shed-row structure, check the end stalls first. These were usually used as tackrooms. Also check all the other stalls. Many a groom has lost a ring or chain in a stall. When something is dropped in the stall and a horse steps on it, it`s planted!
Here are some of the tracks I remember; Bad Axe, Big Rapids, Croswell, Hale, Harrison, Imlay City, and Vassar.
