March was the driest in 50 years, so called April Showers has be as dry as a bone. Farmers are having issues feeding their live stock, as the grass & hay is not growing & they used up last years hay. This year the hay will be poor, just to compound the problem :( Wheat prices (bread) will probably increase with the poor yield :P

I spent 2 hours jumping on my spade on solid clay, maybe making 1/2inch every 2 jumps :( I'm not going out again until the rain comes, but it maybe some weeks :'(

Anyway, managed a few finds:

Plenty of 19th C Lead  2 Smooth Enfields numbered '1' inside :icon_thumright: (just checked, these are my first No.'1's) :)
1 nice 18th C pewter Button
3 Scrappy Roman Coins
My fav find - Victorian Coin Weight (for a Gold Sovereign) :icon_thumright: A new addition to the weight collection.

I missed this post yesterday, shaun is right, you deserve those finds, well done mate :icon_thumleft:. It was very wet here in the winter and the hay crop seems to be going well, along with most of the grain crops, but the fields that I have to detect on are bone dry :dontknow:. I went out last Sunday and gave up after 3 hours and 2 Roman coins. Like you, I think I will wait for some rain, should be some by the end of the week, fingers crossed. It's also rather typical that I have just acquired another farm to detect just when the ground is too hard :tongue3:
Does anyone know a good rain dance :laughing7:

I expect a coin weight to be a very unusual find in a field ?

Very cool !

Surprisingly quite normal, & this one is miles from the nearest town & is not a site in anyway, just a random field near the river.

Those are some nice finds Cru....too bad the turf is so hard.
Wouldn't it be good if we could find a way to share some of
the moisture we are getting here in the NW United States
with you guys. Hope you get some rain soon.....

UPDATE on the Roman Coins:

Dad has confirmed that the 3 scrappy Romans are all the very common “2 Soldier 2 Standard” type from 330-335 AD except that they seem to be of different emperors. The first with a Diadem Bust right at 17mm and 1.86gm with a 6 O’C die Axis is likely to be a Constantine I (Constantine the Great) 307-337, with the next Laureate Head right at 17mm, 1.83gm 6 O’C like Constantine II 317-340 (one of Constantine I’s sons) and the third Laureate cuirassed Head and longer neck at 12mm, 0.82gm 5 O’C being the less found Caesar Delmatius 335-337 (a Nephew of Constantine I)

Very cool finds as always..... we've been under a flood watch for days here. Hoping to get out this coming weekend and hit the site of a 1806 church deep in the woods (only the foundation stones remain). Also, this is my 100th post..... WooHoo!!! Full member on Tnet now (lol). Hope it pours buckets to soften up that ground for you...... HH

Good luck, at least you should have condition on your side (in the woods)
