That's a very nice place for metal detecting. :icon_thumleft:

Nice IHP, congrats!!

Very nice cents Jeff. Congrats :icon_thumright:

Hey Jeff, love hunting those old picnic groves, once you get through the layer of trash, the goodies start popping out. I remembered being at an old, church owned picnic grove before I started detecting, asked a couple people and got a phone number for the caretaker. I called and found out he and his father would be there that Saturday power washing, so after I told him what my intentions were I volunteered to help. After unloading their power washer, cleaning the carburetor to make it run, three hours of power washing and loading their stuff back up, I finally got to hunt. I found SQUAT! Lol...best find was a new dollar coin, some modern clad, a few trinkets and a truck load of beer caps.. (they didn't see the NO ALCOHOL sign)...But, I've had worse days! I got to help someone and got to detect. Like the greenies Jeff, and the presence of the 1800's coinage would usually indicate silver lurking...keep at it! Ddf.

Nicely done, I don't find Indians that often. Hope there are more for you!

Oh yeah ! That place has some goodies hiding for sure !! Nice on the 1897 , and the 1925 .

Nice!!!! Congrats!!!!

Nice pictures and some nice finds, Jeff.

The greenie and the injun makes for a good hunt...

Great finds! I am blown away by your photos. What an awesome place! :occasion14:

Nice looking Indian Jeff. That sure is one scenic place to hunt.

I like finding IHP and that one has beautiful patina. Congrats

Beautiful place to metal detect...those old coins are promising! :occasion14:

Thanks all !

Though I Don't know the Age of the Picnic Grove,

The Church at least

Dates to 1858

1858.webp

& Most likely Turn of the 18th Century.
Many of the Churches in the area do.

Nice photos, historical map, and finds. That looks like a nice place to roam!

I don't think they are Dangerous or anything.
Children of the Corn, Looking to Cook Interlopers :tongue3:

Most of the area is Farm Fields.

But when ya Get close to town, about 1/3 or more of the Houses have a Star,Like some type of Cult.

With the Exception of the Old school,
All the stars look like they were Made at 1 Place

Too Many actually to just be because they Like it.

& Not all the Homes are Old, So it isn't Historical Designation.

may Be Church Members but ???

WTG Jeff. That Indian cent made it all worthwhile. Do you have a date as to when the picnic grove first started? SD
