Have always wondered how sites are named. I understand the Adenas were named after the name of the farm that Thomas Worthington owned named Adena in Ohio. Others after a lake or city. Does/Can the finder of a site get to name the site? Or does some archie decide it? Just curious if a significant site is found, does the finder get pushed to the rear? How does it affect the artifacts he's collected prior to the documentation of the site. Seems the artifacts would be of more historical value if from a known provenance. Please explain...

In my area most of the prominent sites are named after the landowners. The Goldcamp Site was named that because it was located on the Goldcamp farm. Same for the Hardin Village Site and the Feurt Village Site, both were named after the landowners. I think that is usually the norm.
