How do I convert waterproof headphone connector?

I recently bought a Tessoro Tiger Shark which has headphones that hard wired and are very uncomfortable. I would like to convert it to a plug and allow either waterproof headphone use or more comfortable non-waterproof headphones. I don't intend on diveing with my detector but if dropped in the water the headphone connector would be water tight. Anyone know of parts that I could find to do this? Thanks

I've seen waterproof connector sleeves in hardware and at Radio Shack. I don't know how waterproof they are.
