In the place I detect most of the coins have spent several years under water with a high mineral content.

What do you guys normally do with clad like this?

Try soaking in CLR then rinse and use a nylon brush.

If it is crusty modern pennies, I usually just toss them. Quarters or dimes, soak in lemon juice.

I have tried lemon juice and a soft bristle tooth brush.......works fairly good on some coins.

Detergent 600 used for cleaning concrete its acid so be carefully it will destroy value of older finds but cleans great even thick rust and scale .i like it for getting hard to tell dates on misc metal so I can date a dump or foundation site

I tried CLR and it does so so but I do have some grout cleaner which is basically the same thing as concrete cleaner. Thanks I will try that.

I don't think I'd spend dollars on chemicals to clean 30 cents worth of pennies but that's just me.

LOL no but saved up over years and years you dump a $10 bottle of grout cleaner into a 5 gallon bucket full of change I think would be worth it. Yea it would be stupid to clean small quantities and counter productive.
