Just wondering how the Vaquero measures up on Civil war relics and what kind of depth you guys are getting on bullets and what nots. Going to give it a try this weekend on them! If you guys have any tips on what your settings are when you hunt for them it would be appreciated!

bullets you will find my friend up here in maine we don;t really have any CW stuff up here but i find alot of musket balls from revolutionary times it loves them the last one i had i could'nt help but find bullets, my deepest one was around 7" and was using the 5"75 coil and the cz3d was a good finder of them as well

The Vaquero is fine for finding relics and is even better when you use a larger coil. Naturally you need to not use any disc at all. I don't know why but the Tejon is deeper with the same size coils.

Outstanding on old bullets, use minimum disc and you'll get 10 plus inches I'm sure, I was digging 7 inches with my disc set past nickel.

Thanks for the insight fellers anyone else have any suggestions feel free to chime in.

I dug some CW lead two weeks ago with mine. Nothing more then 5 inches but I am sure it could find em deeper. The place I went had been hunted hard for 30 years .Dig holes everywhere and I found just pieces of lead from bullets. I have dug musket balls with my cibola at 10 inches but that was virgin ground and there were lots of em to dig.
The V also loves brass so rivits and hooks can be had at good depth.

hey there CWnut your right what i meant was there were no conflicts or battles up here that i'm aware of, but i did hunt a field that i got permission for that was used in cannon ball firing training and the only thing that i found was a piece of rounded chunk of iron, thought maybe a piece of a ball or shell ? not sure but i ended up throwing it out

i am very aware of the twentith maine regiment i do know the history behind it, my point was actual battles fought on maine soil, and yes i do know of joshua chamberlain originally from brewer maine and was a school teacher for sometime before the war, so lets just move on thank you very much!

I wasn't picking on you, sorry you took it that way.

Still, these Maine regiments had to have trained in Maine. That means training fields, camps etc.

We have the same thing in NJ regarding the revolutionary war. Mostly, the war actvity in our state goes on a straight line from NYC to Trenton. Yet, 60 miles SE, in the pine barrens are training fields. Most are off limits to MD, but that they are there shows there are artifacts to be found outside the accepted areas. We are researching these areas to find promising hunting sites.

lets put it this way i'm willing to challenge most minelabs with it dual tone i can take a 4" iron chisel but i have to be in full disc to do itand pick up the dime behind but you have to work slow, this is the one machine i have no itching to sell right away can't wait til my ground thaws, the mannerisms of it are very simalar to the fisher 1270 just better disc and dual tone and alot lighter!

Any lead on a tesoro will blow your head phones off. I can almost always tell when a cw bullet is under my coil lol that an foil !! Good luck!
