Hi all,

I am a little new to detecting (about 2 years). I am armed with DFX 300. I usually detect in southeastern MA. I was wondering how often people find cobs in this area or close by. I would love to find one. I'm not sure where to start. I realize that I am at a disadvantage because the DFX can't be submerged but I'm sure cobs are found on dry land an shore occasionally. I would like to hear from anyone with an opinion on this. Thanks in advance.

J,

your in a tremendous area full of nautical history....and shipwrecks out the yingyang.
do a little research.....talk to detector clubs in your area....and go where you think the "Cobs" would have been. I will link you to a article which should give you some idea of what you can find in your State. Just get out at begin your journey...you will be rewarded based on your efforts you put into it.
Good Luck, and post 'em when you got 'em

Thanks Trez,

From what I've read on the forums, you are the guy to ask on the topic. I know that Beach Hunter has had some luck around here but I think he's hunting chest deep. I can't take the DFX out that far. I guess I knew they were around but was wondering if they are a rare find on shore here.

They can be found any where on the beach if... your in the right spot........ after the right storm...... at the right time  ??? Mine were found above the low tide line for the most part...one knee deep....one was at the base of a cut dune....all were found after big Nor'Easters!! Look for signs....ship timbers, bronze, brass, copper ship spikes.....after and during storms get out there hunt ! hunt ! hunt ! Try spots where others have found them...if they will tell you???? Where there was one there is most likely more!! The day I found my last one some guy a little ways away got a couple little gold bars!! Such is my luck!!! HH AND GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks Beach Hunter,

I've seen those pics in your original posts. Very impressive  . It's hurricane season and I have a couple spots in mind . The gold bars must have been a rush for the other guy as well. There's something about the cobs though. They tell a bit of their story and leave it to us to figure out the rest :icon_study: . Thanks for the info. Keep us posted on any other great finds.
