How old are these locks ?

They were both found in the same general area. The smaller one I found last year, the big honker on the right earlier this month. If I ever figured out the whole eletrolysis mumbo jumbo, I would give em both a bath. They do need some cleaning.

I wouldn't use electrolysis on them. Might be some non-iron metals involved. I'd try WD-40 and some Q-tips first.

And if I didn't value them highly, I'd think along the lines of dilute muriatic acid, while keeping a close eye on them. Once cleaned, rinse, dry, then oil immediately and thoroughly. Any steel, or iron springs inside would be eaten, or at least damaged to some degree by the acid if you go that route.

I'd try the oil first and see how it goes.

Yup, you sure did, and a great answer it was. I had posted it in the today's finds forum. After posting it there, I thought it would probably be better posted here instead.
