I am waiting on my boxes so I decided to call around. I found a bank with $265 half dollars so I picked them up. After going through them I found 6 40%ers and a 1976 S Bicentennial. I am new but I've been having some pretty good luck around my area. My question is how rare are the 1976 S Bicentennials?

You could google the mintage numbers. I have been searching since february and have found 5 or so 76 S clad proofs and two 76 S 40% silver halves. I have yet to find a 76 S proof 40% silver though. Was yours silver?

Yes, I haven't found a '76 proof yet but mine is silver.

John - I'm about the same a Fish On, 2 40%ers, 2 or 3 proofs but no silver proofs in ~7 months.

I've found 2 76-s clad and 1 76-s 40%. 40% was a teller tray find at one of my favorite order banks haha

They aren't rare at all. The 1913 Liberty nickel is rare: only 5 minted. There are lots of '76s proofs in circulation. I have found 1 silver and about 20 clad '76s. If you do enough volume, you will find one eventually.

I have found one 76-S proof and one 76-S 40%

Since I have posted this I found another 76 s. So I guess they are not that rare. Lol
