How to cover a large area?

So i own a tesoro compadre with the 5.75" concentric coil
How would you recommend covering a large field area, say 40 acres.

I think you should buy the biggest coil you can find for your detector. With a coil that small you'll have to swing it at least 4 times to advance 1 foot. It could take 3 or 4 years to detect 40 acres.
Get a 14 inch coil or larger.

How have you been detecting anything larger than a totlot so far? I mean I have a sniper coil for such things but I can't imagine trying to cover the fields I hit with that little thing. Like the others id suggest finding a larger coil and don't go crazy big because you are used to that Tesoro and it's light weight, you go adding a trashcan lid coil to the end of it you will be unhappy, find one near the . I haven't found a Tesoro I haven't liked because of their ability and that light weight that makes them pleasant to use.go to tesoro.com/products/coils...it will give you a run down of what you feel you need. Since changing coils on your compadre really is not an option. Just break down the 40 acres in sections or grids.

You need to upgrade to a Vaquero with a 12x10 coil and grid 20' x 20' areas.

You should narrow your search. Is there something on the 40 acre field that would make you want to search the whole field? If there is an old homestead site somewhere in the field, concentrate on that area. I would not wander around detecting 40 acres unless I knew there was something there.

All the above offer good suggestions. I'd recommend getting a detector that has ground balancing capabilities and a good selection of optional coils, especially good sized ones. Then be persistent and patient, that's a lot of ground to search.

A friend and I got to detect about 20 acres and we used 2 surveying posts with string tied between them,about 200 feet in length .We walked about 20 feet from a fence,put up the 2 posts and started,we only managed about half,because it was just too hot(around 100),plan on going back in November or December.We didn't find much,no coins,lots of old beer cans and bottle tops.and lots of 30-30 shell casings.
