How to handle an 1870s one-room schoolhouse...

Unbelievably, my finace's parents live about 1 mile from one of the first schoolhouses in WA State. It was built around 1862. As far as I know, it's been in that same spot since then.

Here is the problem. My machine goes berzerk when I'm in the areas immediately around the school. There is just soooo much metal in the ground. Secondly, all the tones I hear are "iron-type" tones. I guess it's probably been rebuilt/refurbished/reroofed amny many times over the last 145 years and maybe I'm hearing all those nails.

How should I approach this? I'd love to hear any ideas, we KNOW there's good stuff in that there ground, right?

Use a small coil, go slow and dig a lot! Use low discrimination and dig as much of the trash as you can stand. Old school houses are some of my favorite places and always produce old coins.
