By defination a myth is an imaginary event or persons doing inhuman deeds of heroical proportions, much like most treasure yarns.
Hercules, Zues, Superman are examples. You may be thinking of legends which usually have some basis of truth but often are
disproved by historical facts. We used to spend hours in libraries disproving them but now we can do it without leaving home.
Practical common sense is your best reference.
