All Treasure Hunting
First time poster here. Just wanted to say hello! Im from Groves Tx and am looking for places to hunt around here. I am new to metal detecting but find myself getting more attached everyday. If Im off work Im gonna spend a couple hours out poking around for sure. Ive spent a little time on Pleasure Island where the old boardwalk and rollercoaster used to stand but man the mesquitos were so bad I didnt last 5 mins. I went on down to a modern park and found some new coins and stuff just kinda learn my device a lil better. Ive spent some time around the Groves library that was built at its current location I think in the early 60's and found one penny a foot deep of the 2002 sort LOL and found 2 complete coke cans about a foot deep. I have those Vid numbers down and wont be digging on those anymore there LOL. I would love to learn some ghost town/mill town sites in the area and spend some time there, or learn a spot to hunt in sabine pass as Im a old war geek. Have spent several hours riding around sabine pass looking but havent found anywhere yet. I know sabine pass pretty well..I was a fireman for the city for many years and spent a lot of time in the pass. hasnt helped much. Im concidering making a trip out to saratoga to a place called bragg station which was an old train depot in the late 1800's and had a few houses and geneal store along side of it. Nothing stands there anymore but im pretty sure i know where the old site is. Other than that, just getting started, Im maybe a little frustrated due to not knowing anywhere really to go..but im sure that will come with time. Love the forums here and I look forward to having many good conversations with you guys!! :hello:

Welcome FyreHawg! Check out your local library for local area history - talk to any oldtimers you meet, they know where everything used to be! Use Goodle Earth historical maps to find old homesites.
