Found a huge safety pin deep in the woods today. It's five inches long and made of brass. On the front, it has the number "4A315" on it. It also has "Risdon" and something else stamped into the back. What the heck was this used for? Any help would be appreciated.

maybe a horse blanket ID pin, but have seen them used in public pools as beach towel markers, and as bag markers in laundry/dry cleaners.

Most probably a laundry pin for a commercial laundry. They put laundry in mesh bags and pinned them shut, so they could was many mesh bags full at one time.

I've seen them used in all sorts of places, I have a few that came from a meat packing plant.

.... What the heck was this used for? ...

Answer: Extremely large diapers? :laughing7:
Sorry, could not resist.

As for using these with commercial laundry, it seems to me there would be better alternatives.
But then, I'm not in that business.

Anduril, if it wouldn't have been you, I'd be saying it now. So thank you!

maybe a horse blanket ID pin

That's a definite possibility. There's a few on eBay that state it's military related, but I'm not sure about that. Probably just a multi-purpose item. Thanks for all the help!
