Very interesting coins, I believe cleaning them would depend on what their composition is. HH

Cool never seen one before thanks for sharing.

Well they look like a Lead-alloy to me, so DO NOT clean them at all.

I wouldn't rush to clean them until all of the 'experts' here have weighed in. Those coins are obviously very old and need to be properly handled. Great finds!

Thanks guys for the responses,

so dont clean them, not even with water?

what time age you think I am looking at?

Basically when you have full detail like you do here, my question is why would you want to clean ?

Usually cleaning is for coins that havew been dug, and that have detail obscured by gunk, grim, crust of some sort, and needs to be cleaned to be IDed.

One thing to remember is that cleaning / further cleaning can always be done, but generally you can't undo cleaning.

Very neat finds. Congrats!:icon_thumleft:

But I can not ID them!!

Cleaning Lead will take off the oxided layer, even with just water. The Id should be simple to the right person, no cleaning needed.

Yes, but there is PLENTY of detail to ID them with. If you clean, you risk losing that detail. So why would you? I don't know what that coin is, but it is not because there is a lack of detail to ID. Post it in the "What is it?" section of the forum.

There seems to be a lot of info just google German lead token. GL

Thanks guys..so no cleaning.

They look like Byzantine design but havent found one the same yet..

They were coinage or something else?

How should I store them, anything special?

As they are Lead it would suggest they are a token instead of coinage. Just store like a normal coin; in a tray or acid-free coin wallets.
