Millions of old settlement sites and ghost towns are now just vacant farm field. When a farmer plows a field it can bring lost items right up to the surface.

Mine gets turned over every year, it's like a time machine, bringing the goods almost right to the surface

my buddy got a 1772 silver reale last year why i found a 1911 silver canadian half dime we both picked up 100s of porcelin buttons off the top and a bunch of other buttons and cuff links and bale seals and old bells you just never know whats in there plus the old wagon trail runs right alone the top of the field

Very nice finds! That half coin(?) has me intrigued, perhaps it will clean up.

im going to sock it in oil for a week or so and see if it helps at all

I really like those cut coins, they're unique. Probably a type of kg:thumbsup: I found one last year. I think I'm going to drill a hole through the top and put it on a chain. Nice finds!

Just wondering, are you hunting in a cornfield in Mass? Not sure what part of the state you are in but I still have 2 feet snow in my back yard. I'm jealous!

I wrote an article titled "Hunting farm fields forever" because I stop by fields from the 1600s -1700s (some I hit in the 1980s) that have been hammered to death by a lot of TH'ers over the yrs - and now and then will still get a few nice items every spring they turn them over
Keep at them

yes the field is in mass but 75% has no snow u can get 3 or 4 inch before u hit frozen ground
