Hunting on Long Island

Hi all
Ive always been interested in metal detecting, and have decided after a month of reading just about everything on the net and also watching posted videos I have decided to take up this hobby. I live on Long Island (Suffolk County) and was trying to find out if there are any locals who get together, wouldn't mind meeting up with a newbie and maybe showing them the ropes. I haven't bought my detector yet but I should decide within the next few weeks. Ive always been a bit of a history buff and I think it would fascinating to find whats out there. I look forward to hearing from some of you.Thanks.
