San Francisco if filled with small medians, some of them are only 100 X 50 feet. I hit two of them today. The first one
was a small triangular shaped one that was about 30 feet wide and possible 150 feet long. I had to swing my coil through
three inch tall clover that was not difficult. My first two hours I had dug up two wheaties and some clad. On my second pass
I got a 5" signal near the bass of a tree and was surprised digging up a 1904-S barber dime! It's worn and has a weak S mint
mark, but it's a key date with very low mintage!

My second location was a similar place, it was about 6 miles away from the 1st place. Metal detecting on a short dirt trail I managed
a wheatie and a 1961 silver quarter. I also dug up a 1955 General Motors Motorama token in the same area.

Those smaller medians can really pay off!

Smart. I've hunted a lot of similar areas around my city and found a lot the past few years.

in new england we call those tree belts because most of the ones along side walks have or had trees on them at one time
we do very well on older ones - guys never thought to hit them and when i was a kid i started to do them in the late 70s
and got a lot of coins and a lot of old silver - i would go to places with 100 yr old houses
find ones along old parade routes if possible
find ones if possible near old stores - old candy stores
old banks...amywhere
up here in the north east - with our snow - anything dropped on the side walk would get shoveled onto the treebelt/medians

C.H.F. Great finds !! Ditto what "CASPER-2" & "Metal Headz" say. Those old medians are great. Old parade routes or other celebrations etc. Also what is interesting is your GM token. You may or may not know, but they were made perfectly balanced and will spin nicely on a smooth, flat surface with a flick of your finger. See that "pimple" upper right of 1955 & left near the "C" in Chevrolet? Put that side on the smooth surface & give it a flick. See if it still works. It should. Might have to clean the "pimple" a little. Cheers ! J.T.G.

Tight little spot you hunted there. Nice work!

Man you're certainly tenacious when it comes to the sites that you detect... how're your knees feeling today after detecting those inclines. :laughing7:
Those streets look a lot like the ones I drove down in San Francisco back in August.

Very interesting finds  love the old pocket watch and the GM dealer token.
If you don't take the time to investigate these older areas of the city, you'll never know what you might be missing!

I recognize this "foreign coin", looks a lot like a 'George VI' Canadian Nickel or British 'Two Shilling' coin... what's on the front? :icon_scratch:

Dave

PS. I’ve heard that Vermont Street, which snakes its way down Potrero Hill between 20th and 22nd Streets. Seven switchbacks, far more disorienting (and far more steep) than Lombard's, wedged into a claustrophobic tree-canopied alley. Vermont Street is just south of 20th St. and just east of US Hwy 101. Approach via Kansas St., jog over at 20th St. to Vermont heading south.

I wish the coin was a British 2 Shilling. It's a common coin from Spain, I've dug probably a dozen of these through the years..

I just put the token on a hard flat surface and flicked it! It still spins nicely! I did not know this about the 1955 version. I've dug about 7 or 8 of these now. I even have dug several the 1953's & the 1954's. Only the 1955 will spin. Thanks!

Thanks very much for the follow up CHF.
The only 'foreign' coins I find here in Canada are either American or British.

I actually found my first French foreign coin last year at an old Woollen Mill site here in Ontario.

Congrats on a great hunt! Looks like it is well worth it to hit the medians. Are you able to open the pocket watch?

I love your creativity in hunting sites! I imagine the parks of SF are well worked and this creative little sites are a much better bang for your buck. I do the same kinds of things up here in Seattle. Keep up the good work!

Wow you really do well love barbers they are hard to find for me
.That GM token things sounds really cool I love stuff like that glad to see you doing so well. I think people would have a fit if I hunted medians on my Town I would have to wear a hard hat and orange vest lol

Nice work and great dedication hunting an area like that! I always try to think like that too! Congrats on the silvers definitely makes the hard work pay off in a way!
