This might be a great time, post-storm, to check out the remains of the expected surge and beach erosion as predicted.
Anyone thought about hitting Coney or any of the other beaches? I might be interested in a couple of good days!

There will be dozens of machines on EVERY New York beach at low tide on Monday. I said a prayer for all my hunting buddies out on Long Island, and in Mahattan, Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn! We are expecting sustained winds of 90+ mph here in White Plains, if the eye crosses Long Island..

I live 54-miles (30-miles as the crow flies) from Jones Beach and the Atlantic, and I doubt the roads out there will be open Monday morning. The local guys like John, Peter, Bob, Joe and Frank will have first crack at the goodies - if their houses are still there. As for me, there will be downed trees, powerlines and flooded parkways between me and Jones.

God Bless us and Keep us - Terry

Good Points Terry, even thought of going out a couple of days early but since I work in the fiber bus. I'll probably get called out. If this scours the beach there will be a windfall for those guys (and gals). Stay safe!

Take advantage you probably won't see another storm like this in that area again $$$$$ . Good luck and be safe

Took care of some elderly neighbors today, getting them to the supermarket and helping move lawn furniture. I live in White Plains, New York, about 30-miles Northeast of NYC, and about the same from Jones Beach, Long Island as the crow flies. The latest computer models are calling for sustained 65-mph wind here. I don't think most folks here are taking it seriously enough, and I fear many are going to be killed here in coastal New York and NYC. My power will almost certainly go out, but we are fully prepared - and can even take care of a few neighbors and friends if need be. Wife is a RN, BSN with 30-years of experience. I pray for all of you in harms way, and would appreciate the same!

I'm on Long Island and for whatever reason had not had a chance to detect much this summer. That said, with Irene coming, I plan to hit the beaches (Robert Moses & Jones Beach) as early as I can on Monday, or when everything is open again. I'm getting excited about detecting once again and this is the perfect opportunity.
