"I Am a Catholic, Please Call a Priest"

I hunted a grass field today that gets a lot of traffic from pinics, soccer and Lacrosse so I figured ther just HAD to be something there, right?

It looked like it was going to rain all day so I had the whole field to myself for about an hour after work and I managed to find $1.60 in clad and this charm that was about 4" down. Not a huge find but it was still pretty cool to see it sitting in the hole as soon as I flipped over the plug. I guess this is my first silver as well :)

Just thought I'd share.

That is a great looking example. I keep all of my vintage religious medallions and rosary pieces together in a folder.

I really think they are one of the more interesting pieces of everyday art that we are lucky to find.

I agree plehbah, most reverently, my son. 8).

You're luckier than me. I found a silver-plated one a year ago made in France (Cheapskates :()). They usually put that 'call the priest' on catholic thingies.

Re: "I Am a Catholic, Please Call a Priest"

Prior to Vatican II, many Roman Catholics were taught to call the Sacrament "Extreme Unction" or "Last Rites". The emphasis was almost entirely on preparation for death. Catholics often wore a medallion, a bracelet, or carried a card in our wallets saying, "I am a Catholic. Please call a priest." In case they were incapacitated and could not request one themselves - Yahoo Answers

Congrats on the silver man!

I guess they call those "Scapular Medals".

Happy hunting!

Re: "I Am a Catholic, Please Call a Priest"

Just wondering...how many of us would actually KNOW a priests number to call if we ever wandered into one of these unfortunate catholics in the wilderness or wherever?
Would we actually look on the back of a medallion or be too busy doing CPR etc?
Could it be possible to be looking at the back of the medallion when the police rolled up...and be shot for robbing bodies??

I'd think if "God sees all!" then he'd send a direct messege to the nearest representative on Earth to the effect of: "Oi..put that boy down.Someone's collapsed out at Bishops farm road.Hurry up hurry up!"

(Sorry, lowered myself to the earlier joke post lol.) ;D

Very nice pendent!

Re: "I Am a Catholic, Please Call a Priest"

Pretty lame commentary, and offensive to a lot of people. Some thoughts are best kept to oneself.
