But it doesn't have .925 stamped. It came in 15 45 on the etrac due to hunting in a trashy area. The inside of the ring has many vertical lines like it has been possibly crudely sized, but the lines are uniform and doesn't appear to be done by a layperson. Every silver ring I have dug has always been marked. If I was a betting man, I would almost certainly say its silver, though. I am just wondering what you all think about not being marked. It has the weight of silver too....

It went into my ring case regardless [emoji38].. 20210103_190812.webp

I have a silver ring that was sized and the 925 was where they sized it, so it might be a jewelers way of proving the scrap he/she kept was silver?:dontknow:

Probably silver, but a silver test will show for sure. Nice ring find.

acid test kits are cheap. It may be made before they started marking rings, i think 1903 or 1905 and later have to be marked.
I found a 14k gold ring this summer that had no markings, thats when i spent 20.00 and bought a acid test fit.
nice find regardless.

Looks good!! Any ring is a good find!

Nice going on the ring.
Just rub the thumb on it till it leaves a black streak on the skin-sniff-rotten egg odour=silver

Also I really don't think anyone would size anything that isn't precious metal. And if they did they would have to re-plate it. That would be a lot to go through for costume jewelry.

Thanks for all the input.. I did polish it and black markings were left on the rag just like all the other silver jewelry I have found. I had forgotten to mention that. I am still puzzled with the lack of a mark. The inside of the ring has those vertical lines like it was machined or something, I have never seen a ring have those. But I am glad to have it regardless.

I am going to invest in an acid test kit. I have a questionable gold ring that is very old and there is a mark inside the band, but it is illegible due to the scratches, and I would like to know for sure if its gold as well, so this gives me another good reason to get a kit.

If you want to know if it is real silver then, test it with a magnet. Silver, like most precious metals, is nonmagnetic, and also, REal silver is odorless. Nevertheless, still a good find.

Good idea. If it's steel it will stick.

I'm with Tony...Any ring is a good find, and deserves a spot in your ring case. Congrats!

Congrats on a nice looking ring.

Simply test it with the Etrac in open air, like it is now. Does the Fe number go to 12 or stay at 15?

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

really nice ring

I've found far more "non-precious metals" rings than the good ones. However, every ring find is always a delight.

You know, I know this, but it never occurred to me to try it with a magnet for some reason. I did, and it isn't magnetic, so that rules steel out. I am still going to get the acid test kit and possibly a small scale to weigh jewelry when I find it. But for every indication it has given me, I am pretty sure it is silver. Thanks for the reminder on the magnet...
