Reading this forum for as long as i have i have never heard mention of all the other "uses" for these tools. To me most of that other krap is just that krap. Can I have some opinions?

Yep. Just get a coat hanger cut 2 straight pieces 10" long bendin 1/2 to form a 90 or an L shape and you have 2 easy to use rods. I do not believe in that mumbo jumbo stuff. I only do it for water lines and such. My metal detector and eye balls do the rest. Good luck!

I would like to say, "it all works if you believe".

The true tool for dowsing is YOU. It's not what you are holding in your hand. It's how well you're receiving the information you're sensing/resonating with. The tool is as good as you believe it to be. The answer is can you resonate with what you're in search of...Everyone resonates yet they just don't know it. The more you are aware of it the more you can tune into the sensation whichin turn allows your tool to function at it's best.

I typically use a pair of 1952 Studebaker radio antenaes...

Broke one and replaced it with a 1966 Buick Le Sabra antenae and got mixed signals.

You don’t have to buy rods...Coat hangers will do the job to start...If you need metal coat hangers go to any place where the people wear uniforms...Most are glad to get rid of some of them....Art

Iron/metal is not the best rods for gold in my opinio. Teleprospector sells rods or a powered rod as I just got one from him am satisfied with his work, jmho. rwdmo

Steel coat hanger will work, if you want to find an underground cable, power line or water pipe. If you want to find valuable metals and or minerals, you will need to fashion or buy one made of brass or bronze, with a high composition of brass. You can purchase one at a welding supply or maybe a home improvement store. The length will vary according to what metal(s) you are seeking. Although theoretically they will pick up any meal in or close to their metal content, copper, tin, zinc. Now if you want to find gold or silver, you will need to use a small specimen of that metal, fastened to the end of you rods. You will only need one for long range directional sensing, but you will need two to pinpoint the location one you get close to the cache. Good Luck. rockhound

Hey rockhound...First a person should determine if the rods will work for him before spending any money...Art

That's true, not all people have the "energy" to do it. I can be standing there with the rods swung in or out, my brother-in-law will touch me on the sholder and shwiiing, it's gone. A positive attitude goes along way in finding what your looking for in life!

Hey Thank you rwd mo!Jon

Well I ended up buying a set of copper rods with wood handles. Only cost $15 & free shipping. No response yet. I am reading art's post right now.

REAL DUMB QUESTION TIME

Which rod end?

To me the tip furthest out sounds the most logical but then they will be weighted. So I am guessing the end that sticks out the bottom of your hand.

I use two methods for baiting my rods...For gold and silver I attach small nuggets to the end of the rods using liquid black tape and the other is to slide a film canister onto the rod...You can also hold the bait in your hand...heck..one famous dowser put the bait in his mouth...Art

What you said is true, Art, but I thought he was already committed to purchasing something, so I thought I would tell him how to make a good set before plunking a lot of money down on a set. I put specimen of silver or gold onto the end of the rods. I secure them with fine copper wire wrapped around them. I have found this works best for me. You should hold the rods down at a very shallow angle when using anyway, so the extra weight doesn't seem to affect the rods sensitivity. Good Luck with you dowsing adventure. Hopefully it will work great for you. Remember, it is like everything else, the more you use them, the greater the chance of becoming proficient with them. The largest obstacle I have seen most people encounter is how to read what the rods are telling them. rockhound

Hey rockhound....there is always another way to skin a cat....I first put a film container on my rod to locate an old mining camp...If I could find the old camp fire using ashes from the local wood I could find it..It has been useful finding closed mine shafts using black powder as bait...many ways to locate stuff..Art

Wood Handles? Either put the rods in copper tubes for handles or else put them in your hands with no handles. Hopefully the handle ends of the rods are at least 6" long.

If looking for anything metal use a good conductor material for the rods. And do not insulate your hands from the rods!

What ever happened to the good ole days when we would just trim us a green forked branch from the nearest tree witch what we were looking for and chunk the branch. :laughing7: sigh technology I guess.

For me brass works better for gold than wood.
Nothing better than a forked stick from a willow tree freshly cut for finding underground water though :icon_thumright:

Hey Goodyguy...Good advice..I prefer no handles but some people need them...My son has to have copper handles as he would always have to dig a 2 ½ foot wide hole to recover placer gold..
The green forked branch works but in my kind of the country they are not always available....Art
