I call it a rivet, but I don't think that's the correct ID...help, please...& a bit

of silver today at shoreline area.

Hi:hello:

Beautiful out there today; hunted 2 1/2 hrs. as tide was receding; stayed close to shoreline.

Met a fellow detectorist out there and we spoke for a few minutes before continuing in the hunt.

Found a nice 1944 "Merc" , clads, a "53 "wheatie" and an item that I'm not sure of its correct name; it isn't a button, but I think these things are used on knapsacks, jeans as part of a closure.

The item appears to be very old, with decorative edge and 13 stars in the center.

I'm wondering is there is some type of shield in the center...I can't figure it out...the stars seem to be placed in a random fashion, but after a few hours of soaking in olive oil, I may be able to see this item more clearly.

Any help in ID'ing it would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Lorraine
