I can't believe I found this in my backyard ! Value / Time Period ??

I was getting the "detector bug" in me today, so I went in my backyard for about 45 minutes.

I can't beleive I found a silver half dollar and a silver dime ( I beleive it's silver). If so, it will be the first real silver I ever found. I found more in 45 minutes then I usually do when I go on long distance hunts.

Does anyone know how old the half dollar is and is it real silver? Is the dime real silver? I wasn't sure what the time cutoffs were for coins being made of silver. My house was made in the 1950's.

The White's DFX-300 is a great machine and the new Sunray Probe I just bought is unbeleivable.

I am not sure but I think on the halves....1964 and older have silver. Great finds anyway!

You've got silver! Nice finds, the 1941 walking liberty half and the 1951 dime are both 90% silver.

64 & older are 90% silver, 65-70 are 40% silver in the Halves only. the rest of U.S. coins turned to clad in 65. Nice finds!

That Walker is a great find. Not too many folks find them. You have a good yard to hunt in.

Rosie=Roosevelt, 90% silver, and you can see the date on the front under her feet. just have to look hard. Great Finds. Both are SILVER.

I recognize that nail...was manufactured on May 12 1967....otherwise nice silver finds.

It was surprising to me to find such an old coin in a neighborhood that is only as old as the 50's.

Way to go!

Not surprising to find older coins in newer places. The wear on that half means that it could well have bean carried around into the mid to late 60's. In '66/'67 we would ask people on the street to trade change with us. We would give them the new clad for thier old mercs and rosies that we needed for our collections.

Keep going over that ground. There is still more goodies there.

look at the change in your pocket i bet some of it is 30 years old so that kind of explains why that would be there. willy.
