I chopped ice but the 1879 church yard gave up a couple of goodies.

DANG it was tough digging this evening. I had a good 25 cent reading at 6 inches but couldn't get it with my knife. I didn't want to make a mess out of their yard. I remember where it for when the ground thaws. GOODIE GOODIE. I did manage a buffalo nickel at about 5 inches and it was a good signal too. I don't know if I can get a date off of it though. I dug a wheat penny at about 4 inches that looks like it was mutilated. I just barely figured out it was a wheat. I also found a great military button. If anyone could tell me how old it is I sure would be grateful. It was about 5 inches deep and gave a great signal. I also ran the sensitivity up to almost full throttle and it sure picked up a lot better. I finally got the nerve to do it, lol

Oh, and the battery ran down in my headphones and I had to look without them. That was a pain because the tones didn't sound anything like they do with the headphones on.

Very well done!! You had a bit of luck today and kudos to you for braving the cold!

Great finds! I'm still waiting on my first buffalo. WTG!

Nice finds, I still love to find old military items.

Nice finds! Your button looks like it could be from the early 1900s by the way the backing is formed, I would say WW1 (take this for what its worth, I'm no expert ;D) WW2 to present have a backing that is either molded right from the button itself or sodered in place, that one looks to be stamped and then a backing was placed inside, either way its a sweet find!!

On the "U.S." disk, the pin-clutch type attachment with a rectangular piece of brass was reportedly introduced around 1953.

Great job. Someone at the church was looking down on you, that's for sure.
