I could'nt resist this little warm spell!

I been watching the weather like a crazy man to try to figuire out if I should set the detector up in the corner for the winter and then get out the icefishing gear or what??????? The weather man was predicting a warm day for Sunday with some showers thrown in for good measure, I told myself it it does'nt rain too terribly hard I will see if I can't get out for a few hours and try my luck. Well the rain held off a bit this afternoon so I decided to try a spot near the old pioneer cemetary that produced 3 nice indians last month. It was pretty slow going at first, getting the usual clad and a few junk items I dug just cause it had a deep signal. I started to circle around a huge old pine tree when my ear phones about blew off my head, about 10 inches down I pulled my very first crotal bell! I have seen many posted on this site but never had any luck finding one of my own till today :D. As I worked down the small strip I had to hunt I came to the end where the old sidewalk meets the cemetary line, there I got another hard banging signal! the depth meter read shallow so I figuired it to be maybe a new quarter or half dollar maybe, the ground right there was frozen as hard as rock but I managed to chip my way through. What ever it was I got it in what little bit of a plug I was able to get up out of the hole. the plug was frozen so I thought I would take and smash the plug on the cement sidewalk to free my half dollar! lol Just as I was drawing the plug back in my fist a small silver object drops to the cement? Lo and behold a sweet 1898-O barber dime!!!!! Wow christmas comes early for old Slipperyjack! and I even got one of Santas slieghbells as a reward for going out on a real crappy day. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year

Re: I could'nt resist this little warm spell!

Isn't that a kinda semi-key date mint mark barber dime? Great find Jack. Great way to "Maybe" end the season. Those bells are cool too. There is a site out there that you can date em even. They come in Jumbo size too. I found one once that was huge. Hope you can get out again before the ground freezes solid. Jim

I knew once you broke your barber dime drought, you would come back with a vengeance. Show off!!! Nice looking bell there too. Let me know what the writing is on the top and I might be able to age it. I printed off a page from a collector to check some of the bells I had found. Give me a shout sometime.
