I.D. help 1812- 1820's period

I have one cuff button and one item that is not metal but sure looked like a button in the dirt.
This site produced many second Dragoons buttons and was occupied during the second Seminole war 1835 - 1842
However most of the buttons date earlier.
I may have an idea about the cuff button ..looks like a 2 over a 3 to me but its in bad shape.
The other..I really have no idea.. wood and cloth Mabey?
It was in a muddy low land area so Mabey.

Those US buttons are great! The second item in the first post is an old paper shotgun shell bottom you can see the dimple in the primer, I find alot of them around here deteriorated like that.

I found a flat button like that, do you have any idea what person could have worn it? Mine dates 1827-1840, and i think its intresting that you found one from what is a second seminole war site and i found one from a site that is believed to be a ssw site.

nice, who made your button? Mine was Scovil (Well known for making military buttons for the US)

unless my eyes are playing tricks on me that brassy looking flat button has a capital letter " I " or 1 on it --as infantry or 1st whatever --british did send buttons to the south during the civil war and might have sent some in during the Seminole war era maybe?

Yeah I think I see an "I" then if I turn it I see something else..I think I've looked at it too much at this point.. fresh eyes are great thanks guys.

gator boy --yours too has an "I" or 1 upon it * donnybrooks is clearly American made by scovil -- the word colour- English spelling of "color" on yours leans toward your being british made * I'm thinking your is a "English" imported version of the same basic type of button as his scovil button --with a block letter "I" for infantry -- these flat buttons with "puff terms" are well known to be 1820 /1930 type era items -- clearly the right time frame for Seminole wars era-- the clay pipes were another "heavily imported" british item used by the US military

It's always possible though that the British items actually came with British soldiers who came to fight for the US in the SSW. There were soldiers from the Netherlands, Britain, and many other countries in the SSW.

It doesn't take much study into Florida history at that time to get to know about the British occupation.
They controlled Florida for a time..

Yep less than a half hour from me British, Spanish, Confederate, Union, Muskogee
