I dug this little ink bottle and need help!

I recently dug this little ink bottle and would like some information. It has a pontil mark on the bottom. It is embossed HARRISON'S COLUMBIAN INK.

The Harrison Columbian Ink Co. is probably the most well known 19th C. ink co., not only by ink collectors, but by bottle collectors in general.

The company began around 1847 and lasted about 30 years, though by 1861, the HCIC was then known as Harrison's Columbian Perfumery and Ink Co.--so your bottle may date from 1847 to 1861.

Wow very cool and that open pontil goes right with the 1840's to 61 date. Maybe more to the earlier side though. I would think like some others that it could be a valuable bottle.

My guess too! Inks seem to be very collectible and that one is definitely old! It's sick, has an open pontil and very crude. It's hard to repro crude and that dirt sickness. The big question is now, do you tumble it to get rid of the sickness and risk breaking it? Depends on what it's worth now vs tumbled. Is it worth the gamble? You could send it out to a pro and put insurance on it...then if it breaks you would at least get your money out of it.
