Finally one worse than my three. ;D Mine were more of a tease being able to see lots of detail but no date! Been about 5 years since my last.

My luck dictates that mine is an 1856

It is still an awesome find!

The first thing I saw when I dug my only one (about two years ago) was the beautiful reverse, as you can see by the photo I took as soon as I dug it.

When I got home and cleaned it, however, I noticed that the obverse has not faired as well after 151 years underground.

I also came to realize that attempting to clean these nickels (as they were referred to at the time) or any nickels for that matter, will only do further damage. You are better off not trying to clean early cents or nickel five cent pieces, other than with a soft brush.

Every single penny I dig, I think come on flying eagle.... :icon_scratch: :laughing7:

Nice dig !! :icon_thumleft: :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! ;D :D

If it reads penny on your display, then I can guarantee it will not be a Flying Eagle Cent. You would be better off wishing for one when you get a pull tab signal, since that is what they will read.

It sounded like one more shotshell base of which I dig all because 1 in 10 is a nickel or a 2 piece button. PS I use ferrous sounds

Or a shotgun shell!

Gotta say, it's one more than I have. I would be proud, happy and satisfied mainly because I've been hunting an area that gives me relics around those dates for Indian Heads and Flying Eagles, yet...Nothing! I'm glad for you and now get the VF+ one.

But on the bright side you can make out what it is, not much worse then a slug. Congrats on your FE.

Thanks I will settle for one with a readable date! and yes I am thrilled to have dug one!

Very nice...My first indian head penny turned out to be a flying eagle....I was like an injun cool...then i flipped it over and saw the eagle...and the condition was awsome...Very cool coin, and they dont turn up too often...Congrats :icon_thumleft:

Now that you heard one and got it off your list, hopefully you'll hear more and some of them may be in better condition. Nice Job
