I found 34. I all so found some flat buttons a little brass buckle and some other odds and ends. Oh yeah, I all so got my first US belt plate.
I went hunting with a fello treasure netter and we went to a new spot I found. We hunted there for bit and came up with nothing so we decided to stop at a house we saw on the way in that looked like it had an old home site next to it. Turns out it was and old home site but we got turned away. So we went to a new spot of his and we had a pretty good afternoon. We pulled several 1800's coins out of the ground some little buckles and some bullets. The US belt plate was just icing on the cake. :laughing7:

I thought the same thing. Nice finds OP, looks like you've got a good spot to hunt some more.

Just the 64 indian would have made my day ;D Looks like you have a Great site there :headbang:

CHEERS :coffee2:

You guys are right it's definatly not 34. Anyone know what the dots above the y mean? :icon_scratch:

The round thing with concentric circles is part of a thermostat. I have used them in incubators and brooders for birds.

I believe that is a weight used by an apothecary. Can't tell you what the symbol means. Nice finds all around!

looks like you had a good day :icon_thumright:

Just a guess.. Passage for party of 4 on a watercraft matching the initials

Great finds. :hello2:
One of those weights with the same (or similar) writing come up here on Tnet a few months ago.
I can't recall who posted it, but someone will remember.
Congrats,

Ok.....so NOT living in the part of the country where Civil War relics are found....I have a rather dumb question, so forgive my ignorance in advance...please. Is one to assume that the buckle and attachments all came off of a dead Union soldier? I mean, I see all these guys digging up CW relics, and I wonder if they just fell off during battle??......was someone killed and then the body was never recovered and the metal pieces got covered up?? Can someone please enlighten someone that knows next to....ok....NOTHING about that stuff? Thanks!

Congrats on your first plate. The 34 is some kind of weight.
Dman

It is 3g, or three grams. You have an apothecary scale weight. Used on a balance scale to weigh things like gold coins, nuggets, dust or other valuable materials. Put it on an accurate scale that reads in grams and you'll find it to be 3.0 grams weight.

I have attached a photo of a similar one that I found a few months ago. Also 3 grams but the "g" isn't as distinctive as yours.

It could have fell off the soldiers uniform while travelling, fighting etc etc or could have been lost/discarded years later. More than likely not a body associated, although it's not out of the realm of possibility. By civil war times I imagine most if not all bodies were moved or buried properly onsite at some point afterwards, if I remember the documentaries I've seen.

Makes sense I suppose, and I appreciate the response. It just seems crazy, what with the sheer number of finds over the decades, that there were THAT many lost buckles, parts and pieces! It's like they would have been everywhere!! But I guess there were a LOT of soldiers in that war...duh! :tongue3: Thanks again for tolerating my question. HH!

Thanks for the comments.
Thank you for your input on the weight Curious The George. My weight comes in at 7.6 grams. I'll have to hit the books when I get a chance. :read2:
That's what I like about this hobby, you find something and you have to know what it is.
Thanks pennyfarmer that's one item I don't have to look up anymore. :icon_thumleft:
